Chapter 5

Teddy looked at Vic and said, "What just happened?" He sank to the bed, the dog burying his face between Teddy's knees, wanting to give and receive comfort. Teddy stroked the dog's head and ears. His senses reeled as he tried to figure out what the heck was going on with Song. He sent him a text.

He checked before adding it, then hit send, wondering if Song would sabotage that opportunity as well as their relationship. He had no idea why Song was so freaked out, and it was devastating. He thought about their impassioned lovemaking, and suddenly couldn't bear to be in the room that held so much emotional heat and promise for him.

I told him I loved him and he went nuts.

Teddy tossed the phone onto the bed, trotted to the shower and stripped off his sticky clothing. He tried not to think about the horrible scene just now. He turned on the shower and switched on the water radio Song had given him, knowing Teddy's penchant for show tunes with his suds.

Neil Diamond was singing an oldie but goodie, "Song Sung Blue."

Song Sung Blue weeping like a willow...

Man, oh man. That wasn't the best song to listen to right now. Teddy changed stations.

"And in other news, there's a crash on the H1."

Yeah. That suits my mood better.

"Head on collision. Not sure how that's possible on the freeway folks..."

I know how it's possible. Your boyfriend goes berserk for no good reason. What got into him?

Teddy couldn't think about anything else, no matter what he tried. The short, vicious little scene just kept re-looping in his mind as he washed and rinsed himself off. He had a tough day ahead of him. Another fabulous stretch of time with Hugo in his immediate future. And no Song to come home to.

Maybe he'll calm down and change his mind.

Teddy turned off the shower taps and tried to push thoughts of romance aside and focus on the kidnap scene he had to write today.

He dried off and dressed, trying not to think about tonight. Or Song. And failing miserably. I shouldn't have told him I love him.

Vic was pacing. He hovered by the door, Teddy knew, fearful that he'd be left behind today. Teddy leashed him, and the dog bounded out into the hallway as they walked out of the room. Teddy grinned as Vic galloped to the elevator, dragging Teddy behind him. Teddy actually laughed. The dog was more excited than he was at the prospect of a day the office.

It was early, a little before seven, and Teddy debated calling Venetia. They often had breakfast together, but Teddy really needed carbs now without a side order of drama. As long as he was back by eight-thirty to drive her to work he'd be okay. He ran into her in the hotel lobby though, as she sneaked in holding her shoes. Warren was depositing his vehicle with the valet guys, and Venetia looked guilty as she caught Teddy's gaze.
